BRAIN INSULINRESISTANCE. THE IMPACT OF METABOLIC STATUS ON LEVEL OF NEURONAL IRS-1 PHOSPHOTYPES
Abstract
Insulin resistance in the brain plays an important role in the development of neurodegenerative diseases, eating disorders, and disruptions in the systemic metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates. Research shows that insulin is crucial not only in glucose metabolism but also in processes such as synaptic plasticity, neurogenesis, and memory formation. This study investigated the
relationship between brain insulin resistance and indicators of metabolic health and found a direct link with the activity of the insulin signaling pathway in the brain and the progression of metabolic syndrome.
